Julia Fiona Roberts was born in Atlanta on October 28, 1967 as the daughter of Betty Lou Bredemus and Walter Grady Roberts. Julia Fiona Roberts is the fourth generation Roberts that resided in Atlanta. In the early years of his life the father of her mother became obsessed by theatre. When he was a student of Emory University, he performed in several productions in Atlanta. After he enlisted in the Air Force and was spotted alongside Betty Lou Bredemus in Biloxi. In 1955, the couple married and their son Eric Anthony was born. Walter as well as his spouse quit their Air Force service in the year 1957 after which they began enrolment with Walter as a student at Tulane University. Walter was a part of the Atlanta Academy Theater and Harrington Scenic and Lighting Studio when the family relocated from Atlanta to Decatur, Georgia in the year 1960. In 1964 Walter and Betty Lou began production on a local children's Saturday morning TV show named Bum Bum and His Buddies which they financed themselves. In 1964 Walter and Betty Lou founded The Actors and Writers Workshop. It lasted for six years. They welcomed in 1965 two children to the family: Lelisa Billingsley and Julia Billingsley.
